the concept of identity has long been underrated - what's on the outside does not always reflect the inside. although ethnicity and essentialism determine a biological identity, social interaction and reaction, teamed with agency, create an 'image' of ourselves that others identify us with.

however, the individual may not agree with his/her persona. the problem of identity lies in the fact that one cannot define it purely based on origin.

thus, neither should society.
