the past week has been one filled with meet-ups, food, coffee and much catching up with friends. it feels good, yet strange that a place so familiar to me, my home, has become my holiday grounds. nonetheless, seeing my good old friends from jc, especially my canoeing team mates, bring back fond memories (and tortures) of school and camaraderie.
there are a few things i miss about australia though. smoke-free air, polite sales people, open-mindedness, extremely blue skies and friends.
however, i also feel an affinity with europe and its culture, which contradicts yet complements my chinese roots. i can't say i'm extremely pro-europe, nor am i a loyal chinese of the motherland yet these composites make up my identity.
if home is where the heart is, then the world is mine.
i'll be wandering the streets of the netherlands, italy, austria and germany - but! i will try to write from these places and keep you guys updated. i cannot wait to meet my germanic friends again, to live with europeans again, to re-see milan's duomo, go trigger happy and perhaps even play with snow. it's time to be a culturevulture buried in 'contemporary' history once again - and i love it.
