photos from James Nachtwey

nicky and i went to FOAM yesterday - Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam.

it's one of the best photography museums i've seen and the work of James Nachtwey clearly stood out. not because of his style/technique or even subject matter (i think there are many more photographers that focus on war and the humanity crises), but his honesty in the photos.

when black and white photos of suffering are blown up to be almost life-sized, it is confronting. the power of black and white which condenses reality into simple, clear lines is simply amazing and poignantly frigtening.

we found ourselves with goosebumps, some tears in our eyes and a lack of appetite.
