dhar and me

i took a swim in the pool that i "grew up" in. it's the pool of the condo next to mine. again, as kids, the pool was our fave hang out place. alas, today it was a ghost town. i was the only one swimming. i had gained entry from my good ol' friend, dharshinee, who's back from sydney. we attended secondary school together. anyhow. swimming the norm 20 laps of front crawl was ok coz you hardly see your surroundings, however, when i did breaststroke, i suddenly remembered the tragic accident that happend years and years ago. the little girl that drowned in that very same pool. she was maybe a year older than me and also played shitty games with us. alas, the last game she played was truly shitty.

i did get freaked out and only did like 4 laps of breaststroke, cautiously looking at the depths of the 2.1m end and thinking about the girl. somehow, after reading and enjoying the sun (not without SUNBLOCK, of course), i sensed that everything was ok and proceeded to do more laps.

strange. it was through observing nature that i felt calm. very cliche, i know. but it's not a cliche for nothing. nonetheless, the poor girl was very young and somehow i guess and hope her spirit was at peace. i guess that's the circle of life. we all return to the earth somehow. "ashes to ashes, dust to dust".

you cannot think about death without thinking of life, and vice versa.

so i continued on into the afternoon, reading a magazine and my chinese seamstress book

reading in the pool

the ironic thing is, my maid told me our guppies had babies today. talk about drama in one day. i'm not a fish fan but i guess the gift of life is precious, so i went to the tank. i asked her where the baby fish were and she said they were hiding. erm. ok. i saw an orange "molly" trapped near the sea plants, so i moved it, and it swam free. i asked her again, where were the babies and she said, they were hiding in the plants to avoid the "mollies" coz the latter ate some baby fish already.

oh. NOW she tells me.

so death to life to death again. all in a period of 6 hours. makes you think, doesn't it?
