it's been 7 years since my first two visits to Vietnam.
we landed in Ho Chi Minh City last night and were surprised by how modern it was. a real change from the last time i was here. however, the people still remain the same - fiercely nationalistic; but always friendly. we spent the night at a pub drinking and became acquainted with a weird swede. other than that, it was hard to believe we were in Vietnam listening to modern indie music, drinking S$2 beers and watching live soccer.
however, traffic remains an adventure and can be a royal pain in the ass after a while. we spent half of today walking around the main city, some other quaint neighbourhoods and going on a temple trail. communist posters line the streets juxtaposing the current economic boom in Vietnam.
we're off tomorrow morning from this city to Hué - somewhere smaller, more traditional and less chaotic.
