my weekend:

thursday: Köln (Cologne)

approaching Köln Hauptbahnhof and the gothic Dom.. looking up..walking clergy (pre-Good Friday ceremony)..friday: Köln part 2, Bonn & the evening in Aachen
art..one last look at the dom..

having a delicious Kölsch under the sun.. classic german cuisine..inside a souvenir store..Bonn:
at the tomb of Robert Schumann.. the house where Beethoven was born..the university building..people enjoying the sun at the park opposite the building..Aachen:
having dinner in a medieval restaurant..saturday: Aachen & Maastricht (back in the Netherlands)
the Aachener Dom, where Charlemange lies.. stained glass..the dom from outside..the backside of the Aachen rathaus (city hall)..Maastricht
wilheminasingel..the onze liever vrouwekerk..
candles..
St. Janskerk and Vrijthof..and after travelling, comes the techno party! at awakenings, which celebrated its 10 year anniversary. it was held in the westergasfabriek (gas factory/grain silo), which is 15mins walking from our place.

ittybitty people.. laser shows to oo and aah at..indoor fireworks..dave clark, woot!feeling tired at 4:15am (which is relatively early..the party ends at 7am)..the walk home..
four cities in 2 days was really tiring, but it was one helluva trip that was worth it. these are selected highlights from my shots; tons of smaller churches and alleys have been captured and etched in memory. Köln, with its magnificent Dom was both an amazing city and a town reminiscent of its Roman and medieval past. the last minute trip to Bonn proved a good decision as the streets were empty and not packed with tourists. visiting the house of the genius Ludwig van and the tomb of the romantic Schumann, the university building and the cosy atmosphere that students and locals alike create, Bonn is underrated and well worth the time, i say. as the beautiful old capital city of Charlemagne, Aachen possesses unrivalled beauty in its medieval nature. the winding alleys and little hills that snake the city (which end up in relatively big squares) provide a quaint city centre where tourists and locals mingle. back in the good ol' Netherlands, Maastricht has a somewhat different atmosphere from its northern counterparts - probably due to the Catholic nature of the southern provinces, Germany and Belgium. wide boulevards (in comparison to Amsterdam, natuurlijk) and tall churches dominate city squares.
ah, the joys of travelling.
