buona sera from Venezia! i am back in the northern part of Italy which i (have concluded that i) like more. things here are more orderly, although by singaporean standards still a bit chaotic, but the charm of venezia pays off.
napoli was chaotic, noisy, messy and very heavily polluted. however, pompeii and herculaneum provide a very surreal contrast of the ancient city. walking around these two sites with vesuvius looming above is quite a unique experience. the latter is the underdog. although smaller in size and less popular, it is more intact because it was covered by molten lava instead of ash like in pompeii. houses reached as high as 3 stories and we could make out bakeries and thermes (modern day spas) which contained many beautiful mosaics. very nice!
the 8 1/2h train ride from there (via roma, firenze, bologna and multiple smaller cities) was quite an experience of a different kind. heh. thankfully just 15mins in venezia and we were loving it. there are many little treasures behind the corners and so many 'people shots' to take. it takes my mind off the cold. kind of.
