perth's very own west coast eagles won the AFL (australian football league) and the team was in the city this afternoon for some victory parade. just my luck to be there and then (to do some visa administration), what with all the litter, rowdiness and utter pride in the local team. a synedoche of nationalism, perhaps.

so there i was, standing in line at the supermarket, minding my own business when a massive homosapien i sarcastically presume was a woman stood next to me. annoyed, i told her that i was in the queue. so she responded "but this is australia and you should go back to your own country. so that makes me able to beat you!" and she rammed her fat ass infront of me.

as we all know, the common "go back to your own country" comment is the most typical one that any international student will encounter. but the "beat you" thing? geez..simple-minded taken to the next level.

so that's my first encounter EVER in my almost two years in perth. figures it had to be on a day when all the country bumpkins were out.

Smile.
