it's been a museum-filled past three days: the rijksmuseum, tropenmuseum, museum van loon, stedelijk and the oudekerk. phew. couldn't take pics in the rijks..but the rembrandts and vermeers were really beautiful.
Yesterday: at the tropenmuseum of ethnography, which is really well-done. i even got to see a gamalan rehearsal at the grote zaal (big hall) .
i then went to FOAM, my favourite photography museum in amsterdam, because i wanted to see Face2Face Project on Palestinians and Israelis, but alas, it would only begin the next day. so here's a picture of FOAM from the outside, with the facade decorated with some of the pictures.
in the garden..
buxy, the house cat. he's even got his own postcard.

then across the keizergracht at the Museum van Loon, a 17th century canal house which still maintains most of the original furniture and decor.

the kitchen..bedroom 1..leisure room..bedroom 2..and then it started raining cats and dogs. of course, i got caught and carried on cycling for 15mins before reaching the apartment. thank goodness for the gas heater.
view from our bedroom:
today: with nicky to the stedelijk museum and oudekerk.

entrance to the stedelijk.. "hey, it's my colour!"at the oudekerk, amsterdam's oldest monument (c. 1250) for the world press photo exhibition.
i have to clean, pack, wash, vacuum, yadayadayada before thomas and i move out of our apartment tomorrow morning. it's been a cool 5 months in amsterdam. there's so much to love and miss about this city. living here has opened my eyes to much more and while showing me the reason for protecting western values and culture, has also shown me how western capitalism and individualism has resulted in a youth, soaked in boredom. yeah, even with that many things to see and do.
just for fun, this is our bedroom:our living area, with the nadal-federer roland garros match on tv.before packing: (most of) thomas's collection of classical music; entrance to our kitchen..
the rest of the apartment..so this is my russian visa! terribly excited. as i was saying, we're moving tomorrow morning, back to leiden for the weekend before heading off to stockholm on the 18th. daddy's in amsterdam for a short visit (a transit from prague, where he was for a conference), so we'll meet up tomorrow. hurrah!!
