the Swedes have got it right with efficiency, cleanliness, design and style.
Stockholm is such a beautiful city (with equally beautiful people) whose quays, lined with colourful scandinavian buildings, stretch on and on and on..on each its 18 islands. there are physicla remnants of its viking history, usually in the museums, but some entertaining runestones, round mounts and wooden houses, unlike most things of europe's historical past i've seen: these were in the older part of Uppsala (40mins by train), Sweden's main university city. to think i could've gone there too.
the stereotype of blondes is true. i think about 70% of the people are blonde but not dumb. the crowds throng with purpose as individuals stride to work, play, adventure and many of them whip out their pocket books while waiting for the metro to arrive. there also seems not to be as many bored youths, and the sense of respect for others is rather ubiquitous.
as it goes with scandinavia, everything is expensive and overly priced. i cringe when i look at price tags, my brains going into overdrive to convert swedish krones to euros then taking off the insane 25% VAT (although you never really get back that much..phooey). i won't even start about the tax on alcohol.
i wish i could upload my pictures already to do the talking, but this (flat screen-ed) tv cum PC won't let me. free internet access in our hostel room is such a luxury.
another day here before we take the 12h ferry to Helsinki!
